About La Rosiere

‘Our best kept secret’, the attractive, compact resort of La Rosiere sits on a southern terrace high above the Tarentaise valley with superb vistas taking in Val d’Isère, Les Arcs and La Plagne and panoramic views of Mont Blanc, the Monterosa and Matterhorn. Known for its sunny aspect, excellent snow conditions and good mix of uncrowded pistes, La Rosiere is a wonderful family-orientated resort but one that is suitable for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. It offers the chance to ski into the Italian resort of La Thuile as it straddles the French-Italian border and provides excellent value for money with reasonably priced ski school, hire shops and après ski activities just a couple of hundred metres from our Chalets Papillon and Perdrix.

La Rosiere is a less well known gem of a resort that the locals are keen for you to discover. And with its many assets including easy access to the cross-border Espace San Bernardo ski area, fabulous sunshine record and friendly vibe it’s easy to see why it surprises and delights time after time.

La Rosiere snow record

La Rosiere has an excellent snow record with its high altitude slopes stretching from the resort up to 2650m. The ski area enjoys an enviable position on the border with Italy giving it the advantage of catching weather systems coming from both directions and also often has above average snowfalls for the Tarentaise region. Almost all the skiing is above 1850m so the slopes hold their snow well and much of it is north facing, helping preserve the good snow conditions even in prolonged warm weather. The ski area’s 398 snow cannons add to the natural snow to ensure good coverage.

Skiing in La Rosiere

La Rosiere is linked to La Thuile in Italy to form the Espace San Bernardo ski area ranging from 1200m to 2650m and offering almost 160km of piste.  It caters for all abilities with over 80 runs covering a good mix of terrain; the wide open slopes near the top giving way to attractive wooded trails closer to resort. There’s also good off-piste; the Zittieux area just above La Rosiere is patrolled but unpisted and there are plenty of other off-piste options further afield for those looking for powder.

La Rosiere is incredibly child-friendly with high quality, easily-accessible nursery slopes close to the main village of La Rosiere 1850 and Les Eucherts. However its abundance of intermediate blue and red runs, 15 blacks and 2 snowparks mean it caters for everyone. Over the Petit St Bernard pass and across the Italian border into La Thuile you’ll find several steeper, more challenging drops. The Italian side of the resort also provides the challenge of heli-skiing with virgin powder and stunning scenery to tempt the adventurous. And of course there’s always the lure of fabulous authentic Italian cuisine to attract the hungry skier at lunchtime! The slopes are generally uncrowded, well-marked and well-groomed with high speed chairlifts covering all the main pistes. For a detailed review of each ski run see our La Rosiere piste guide.

Snowboarders have the benefit of the jumps, rails, and tables of varying difficulties in the snowparks as well as a boardercross above the main village of La Rosiere 1850 and another area to the right of Les Eucherts. There’s also a good amount of off-piste options for snowboarders providing natural half-pipes and gullies as well as open fields.

Whether you decide to test your legs on the resort’s longest run of some 11km, enjoy some really spectacular forest slopes or find steeper descents including a European Cup Downhill run over the Italian border, you will find La Rosiere has plenty to offer.

La Rosiere Apres and Other Activities:

La Rosiere offers a great range of sports, leisure and relaxation activities. Guests can enjoy snowshoeing, husky rides, paragliding and snow kiting. There is a 10-pin bowling alley and ice rink in Les Eucherts and the resort also offers swimming, indoor climbing, a fitness centre and cinema. Its saunas, jacuzzis and spars offer simple relaxation if you really just want to unwind. The resort has a good choice of restaurants and of course at lunch time you have the choice of authentic French or Italian cuisine depending on which side of the border you choose to ski! The local restaurants are cosy and welcoming offering good quality, traditional Savoyard specialities.

La Rosiere has been awarded ‘Famille Plus Montagne’ status by the French authorities which recognises its efforts to be truly family-friendly. It provides great facilities and activities for kids and they’ll love the weekly firework display and torchlit descent, sledging and of course petting the beautiful St Bernard dogs in the town centre. The resort organises special kids’ activities such as treasure hunts, games and shows to keep them entertained so families find it a great destination for the little ones. La Rosiere doesn’t neglect its older guests in its weekly programme though with concerts, live bands and various theme nights throughout the season.

La Rosiere Nightlife:

Whilst La Rosiere may be a smaller resort than some it still offers some lively night spots open until late. There are a few bars in Les Eucherts, for example the Kitzbuhel bar, with 6 lane bowling alley, pool table and weekly live music, or the Moo Bar lounge and nightclub. For additional après-ski and nightlife there is a free minibus service from Les Eucherts to the main part of La Rosiere 1850 until 11pm. There you’ll find lively après ski until late at Le Pub or can enjoy a more relaxed evening in the attractive surroundings of Le Petit Bouchon. You can show off your vocal skills during karaoke at the Arpin and dance ‘til late at the Petit Danois, one of the resort’s liveliest venues. And if you're staying out later than 11, there's the lovely streetlamp-lit walk through the woods, that we call ‘The Narnia Walk’, which is an easy 15 minute stroll back from La Rosiere to Les Eucherts.

Childcare in la Rosiere

Ski Beat offers an in-house childcare service, either in our crèche in the Chalet Papillon complex or an afternoon care service for the older ones. There is even a private outdoor play area. Please note: The childcare facility is for the use of Ski Beat guests only.
