Val d'Isere has one of the best snow records of any ski resort in Europe. Almost all skiing in the combined Val d'Isere and Tignes ski area is above 1800m, additionally there are two glaciers ensuring that skiing is available throughout the ski season.
Val d'Isere is well known for providing a huge variety of skiing particularly for off-piste and the more advanced skier. It is less well known for the large areas that are suited to less experienced skiers and beginners: there are several ski runs above Solaise and more above la Daille. Val d'Isere is sometimes not recommended for beginner skiers, however this is probably due to the steeper runs that lead back to the village: at the end of the day beginners might be better off taking a telecabine down from the higher slopes. For a detailed review of each ski run in Val d'Isere see our Val d'Isere piste guide.
Snowboarders in Val d'Isere have the benefit of snowparks and half pipes at various locations in the Val d'Isere and Tignes ski areas.
