Tignes has some of Europe's most spectacular scenery. Come winter, mountains are draped in snow, and the resort turns into a veritable winter wonderland. The main resort, Tignes Le Lac, is perched proudly on the shores of lake Le Lac and reaches a majestic height of 2100m, while the lower villages also boast altitudes of 1550 and 1850 metres. Above all of this, lies the jaw-dropping Grande Motte Glacier, which rises to a whopping 3450m! Together with Val d'Isere, Tignes forms part of the Espace Killy, a renowned ski area ski, which offers a 300km stretch of pristine pistes and some of the best skiing the Alps has to offer. Those new to the slopes as well as those who have their skiing down pat will certainly find what they are looking for in this popular resort.

Snow Record

One of the highest resorts in the Alps, Tignes has an exceptional snow record, boasts easy access to 2 glaciers and even offers summer skiing. You're looking at an abundance of the white stuff. A contender to be one of the most snow sure resorts in Europe, Tignes sees an average of 625cm of snowfall over the season, with the average largest dump being 55cm. Tignes' only other possible rivals? Val' d'Isere and Val Thorens.

Skiing in Resort

Tignes and its neighbouring resort of Val d'Isere make up the ski area known as the Espace Killy. It offers over 300km of pisted skiing, linked by around 47 ski lifts, including a funicular railway, a cable car, 24 chairlifts and 19 drag lifts, all of which enable you to ski around the whole area with the utmost of ease and convenience. When it comes to catering to skiers and snowboarders of all levels, Tignes gets top marks. There's a world class snow park, pistes suited to beginners and advanced skiers alike, and for the more adventurous, Tignes also offers some of the best off piste skiing in the French Alps.

Après Ski

Besides offering world-class skiing, Tignes also boasts a very healthy nightlife. In all areas of the resort of Tignes, bars are in plentiful supply. There's no better way to celebrate a great day on the slopes than with a few well earned après ski drinks amongst friends. Whether you prefer to soak up the last of the afternoon sun with a quiet beer, or dance on the tables in your ski boots until dusk, Tignes has no shortage of great spots on which to set your sights when the lifts shut for the day.
