Val d'Isère

About this Resort

Chalet Cristal is in an excellent location in the La Daille area of Val d'Isere; a resort with the well deserved reputation as one of the world's best and most beautiful ski areas. Based at a high altitude of 1800m, the resort offers fantastic snow sure reliability. With its 300 kilometres of maintained slopes, Val, linked with the adjoining resort of Tignes, boasts one of the largest ski areas with a huge variety of runs for all levels. Meanwhile its off piste options for powder addicts are simply legendary.

Whether you are looking to cruise on its wide slopes or pit yourself against the best on the men's Olympic downhill run, Val d'Isere and Tignes ski area, completely deserves its world class ranking. It has a great ski infrastructure with many fast, high capacity and well-managed lifts so you rarely have to queue. Our chalet is perfectly placed to get you to the centre of the action; it's only 150m from the La Daille telecabine and the Etroits chairlift, as well as the 'Funival' funicular across the road which takes you in just three minutes to the top of the Bellevarde at 2827m.

Val d'Isere offers a perfect mix of tradition and modernity having developed into a contemporary and chic alpine village whilst preserving its sense of tradition and old charm. Enjoy exploring the centre of the old town where rustic chalets and old stone properties nestle amongst modern shopping arcades (offering great sports and fashion ware) creating a unique ambience and a great setting for some retail therapy! You can easily reach the centre of Val d'Isere from La Daille on foot or thanks to the free shuttle bus service which runs every day until around 2am.

Snow Record

Val d'Isere has one of the best snow records of any ski resort in Europe. The majority of skiing throughout Val d'Isere and Tignes ski area is above 1800m. Additionally there are two glaciers ensuring that skiing is available throughout the ski season. The highest is the Grande Motte at 3656m whose slopes are the highest of the region.

Skiing in Resort

Val d'Isere is well known for providing a huge variety of skiing and boarding with a broad range of well-groomed pistes. With its wide runs cutting through vast snowfields Val provides perfect fare for 'cruisers' as well as offering the world-renowned challenges of the Face de Bellevarde - the site of the 1992 Olympics men's downhill which drops more than a kilometre to the valley floor; In total there are 300km of marked pistes to enjoy and whilst Val has a deserved reputation for challenging the advanced skier, there are also large areas suited to less experienced skiers and beginners: notably the Ski Tranquille and Solaise area. For a detailed review of each ski run in Val d'Isere see our Val d'Isere piste guide.

Val d'Isere is one of the top resorts for freeride and off-piste - one of its main attractions - and is well organised for the more adventurous.

There are two snowparks in the Espace Killy, with a variety of jumps, rails and kickers that make them great for park novices or experts alike to home their skills.

Après Ski

Val d'Isère is internationally renowned for its vast selection of aprés, bars and nightclubs. The world-class La Folie Douce is set mountainside, so you can enjoy stunning views across the mountains whilst the music echoes across the valley. The live cabaret during the day develops into an unforgettable dancing-on-tables DJ set in the afternoon. Folie Douce is perfect for skiers and non-skiers, as pedestrian access is via the new La Daille telecabine, just a 150m walk away from our Cristal chalets. If an afternoon at Folie Douce wasn't enough - head down to Cocoricos in Val d'Isère centre. Or alternatively ski down to La Rose Blanche in La Daille.
