About this Resort

Description

Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in all of Europe, at a staggering 2300m. It has an après-ski scene to rival the world's best, is a family favourite front-runner and a multi award-winning ski resort. Is it any wonder skiers of all ages and skills descend on this beautiful resort year upon snowy year? The highest point in the Three Valleys ski area, it is overlooked by six glaciers and surrounded by a horseshoe of dramatic peaks.

When it comes to multitasking, Val Thorens gets top marks! It truly has something for everyone. From its vast and varied pistes and wealth of restaurants and bars, to its jam-packed post slope entertainment schedule, a ski holiday in Val Thorens is a ski holiday like no other.

Snow Record

As the highest resort in Europe (2300m), Val Thorens is one of, if not the, most snow-sure resort in the Alps. With 99% of the ski area situated above 2,000 metres, it offers excellent conditions, with an average snowfall of 547cm and the average biggest dump reaching 61cm per season. This means that you are guaranteed some of the best conditions from November right through to May. Should that not be enough, thanks to its Three Valleys connection and the well-kept ski secret that is Maurienne (the Fourth Valley), you're guaranteed excellent snow conditions all season long and some truly incredible pistes to explore.

Other Activities

Val Thorens is the resort if you have a thirst for adrenaline-pumping activities. From the Ice Driving circuit, mountain biking on snow, paragliding and paramotoring, you’ll have plenty to keep you busy. The Orelle Zipline is the highest zipline in France and La Bee is a double zipline. Val Thoren’s Cosmojet toboggan run is the longest in France at 6km, taking 45 minutes to descend. If you want to be active for even longer you could try evening activities such as ‘luge nuit’ (night sledging) ice-skating, the torchlit descent, or skidoos / snowmobiles.
Le Board Sports Centre has a snowboard-shaped roof, and offers a breathtaking view of the ski area. It has more than 1,000m² of aquatic space with three pools, water games, a splash pad, wellness zone, sauna, hammam, hot tub and cold water plunge pool.
If you're looking to sample some fine dining on your host's day off, pre-book your dinner reservation at Le Diamant Noir, Val Thoren’s only Michelin star restaurant, or alternatively try dinner in a Mongolian mountain yurt.

Massage Me

We’ve partnered with Massage Me, an experienced team of professional massage therapists, to offer you a variety of fantastic treatments. Best of all, you won’t even have to leave the comfort of your room as they come to you and turn your accommodation into your own personal spa - now that’s luxury!

Skiing in Resort

Val Thorens is renowned for the quality of its snow, perfectly groomed runs, as well as its state-of-the-art lift system. From its world class beginners' area to its wealth of carving and off-piste, there's something to suit all skiers and snowboarders.
Beginners usually start at the Rond Point des Pistes, with the covered magic carpets and nursery slopes. Les 2 Lacs chairlift gives access to the easiest green run, where most ski and snowboard lessons meet.
For families you have the ‘Funride’ where you will slalom under arches, pass through snowy tunnels, and tackle moguls. You also have “Expérience Spatiale” to explore, which is the beginner snowpark, and is an ideal place to ski as a family, with rollers, a slalom between stars and planets, and jumps to finish.
The Snowpark in Val Thorens has a wide range of boxes, rails, tables and jumps to get your adrenaline fix. It can be found alongside the Plateaux drag lifts and has something for everyone. There are four corridors in this park and they are ranked just like ski runs:. black with the hardest jumps and boxes, then red, blue and green. There is a feature for all abilities! Recently Val Thorens optimised the beginner zones and extended the medium.
For advanced skiers, Val Thorens is part of the huge Three Valleys ski area with over 600km of pistes. All slopes are easily accessible using the fastest lift system in France, with high speed ski lifts and gondolas taking you above 3000m. Val Thorens boasts some of the highest pistes in Europe with skiing up to 3230m. From the top of La Combe de Caron (black piste) you have 360-degree panoramic views of hundreds of Alpine peaks. If you want to get some air, hit some boxes and practise your rollers, Val Thorens can give you just that. At the top of the Deux Lacs chair you will find the ski cross run, named after local Olympic gold medalist Jean-Frédéric Chapuis. With rolling bumps, a few jumps and banked corners, you can challenge yourself or race your friends. Val Thorens is an annual fixture on the Ski Cross World Cup calendar. From Val Thorens you can ski down the valley to Les Menuires and the La Masse area, past this you get to St Martin de Belleville with its famous Jerusalem piste. At any point you can cross over to the Meribel Valley, and then over to the Courchevel Valley which together form the massive Three Valleys circuit.

Après Ski

With over 40 bars and 3 nightclubs there's certainly no scarcity of après-ski action in Val Thorens. You'll find some great après in La Folie Douce, a world-renowned bar, hailed as the dance floor on top of the world - you can even watch the live performances from the La Fruitière restaurant while you enjoy your mountain lunch.
A fantastic alternative to La Folie Douce is 360, a bustling open-air bar with DJ sets. 360 Bar is great for après on the mountain, as it is easy to get to for all levels as it's on a green run and non-skiers can even walk along the path from Val Thorens.
Rue de Gebroulaz is the centre of après and nightlife in Val Thorens. On this party street, you will find a number of famous venues. Frog and Roastbeef is the highest pub in Europe, Café Snesko has been entertaining skiers for over a decade with live music, Saloon and Downunder are perfect for playing pool and watching live sport, O’Connells is a traditional Irish pub, Le Monde is popular for its Dutch aprés ski and classic European hits and finally, Klub Summit is the highest club in Europe and plays a mix of music to keep you dancing till 4am!
