About this Resort

Les Arcs Overview

Based on the sunny, west facing slopes above Bourg St Maurice, Les Arcs has a huge and varied ski area, which means it truly is a paradise for all abilities. A high altitude ski resort, the popular ski destination offers truly superb skiing, from the summit of the Aiguille Rouge, (3.227m) with its breath-taking views over the surrounding French, Italian and Swiss Alps, right down to the tree-lined runs of Villaroger. Based in the world famous Paradiski area, which is known for its bountiful selection of slopes, Les Arcs is full of character and charm, and offers lots of fun activities to boot. From speed riding and paragliding to snow bodyboarding, there’s no shortage of things to keep you thoroughly entertained. The region’s nightlife is also varied, with both quieter spots and wilder ones on offer, which means there is something to suit all parties!

Ski Beat have chosen to feature two Les Arcs resorts: Arc 1950 and Plan Peisey. Arc 1950 offers chalets in a purpose-built five star residence right in the centre of the car-free ski resort, which you can ski through, while Plan Peisey, a traditional alpine village, boasts amazing views of the Vanoise National park and offers stand alone, picture perfect ski chalets.

Snow Record

Les Arcs has an excellent snow record and there are also plenty of snow making machines to ensure that ski access is maintained to all the villages of Les Arcs. Over the last 5 years, the average snowfall has been 316cm with the average biggest dump being 37cm, so the conditions are always spectacular on the mountain. With the highest peak in the resort, the Aiguille Rouge (Red Needle), being 3,227 metres above sea level, those who visit early or late in the season can simply climb high for some blue sky ski conditions.

Skiing in Les Arcs

Variety is truly the spice of life when it comes the 215km stretch of pistes in Les Arcs. Fancy venturing further out? The Vanoise Express gives you easy access to the whole region of Paradiski, which offers 425km of fantastic pistes, and there are host of green, red and blue runs to keep all levels of skiers and snowboarders thoroughly occupied and entertained. Advanced level skiers looking for something extra special can tackle the exhilarating Aiguille Rouge piste, an adrenaline-fuelled trek down one of the longest descents in Europe, while freestylers in Les Arcs also have the benefit of a large snowpark and half pipes above Arc 1800. With the addition of new ski lifts to Arc 2000 over the last few seasons, as well as the constant development of the infrastructure, it is only getting quicker and easier to navigate the whole mountain.

Après-ski

Fancy a break from the slopes, pipes and the parks? Les Arcs has plenty of other fantastic activities on offer. From the ice-skating rinks, spas and cinemas to the wealth of restaurants serving fantastic cuisine, Les Arcs is not just snow! After a day on the slopes, savour the relaxed and laid-back pace of après-ski life and enjoy a chocolat chaud beside a crackling fire or indeed, a vin chaud in one of the region’s many quaint, cosy and welcoming bar.

Plan Peisey

Arc 1950

Arguably the jewel in Les Arcs’ crown, the village of Arc 1950 is the newest of the region’s ski resorts. Dotted with cobble stoned streets, completely car free and surrounded by Swiss pine woods, the popular resort is a huge draw for families, groups and couples alike. The luxury resort is filled with luxury accommodation, an array of several restaurants and bars, sports shops for ski and snowboard hire, and an international ski school, as well as a health and beauty shop! Start your day with a gentle ski through the village to either the Marmottes chairlift or the Bois de l'ours chairlift. At the end of your day you ski back to the picturesque village with amazing views of the Alps, and Mont-Blanc.

Due to its high altitude, Arc 1950 boasts a great snow record, and also has access to snow cannons to ensure you enjoy a snow filled Ski Beat holiday.

Skiing in Arc 1950 means having access to the whole of Paradiski. With the help of a gondola and 3 chair-lifts, guests have a host of options to explore the surrounding areas. For the more experienced skier, there is the Aiguille Rouge gondola lift take, while those skiers who are looking for a less demanding run, can explore the easier pistes to the south of the resort. The Bois de l’Ours chairlift can take skiers lower down to the ski areas of Arc 1600 and Arc 1800 where the Apocalypse freestyle park is located.

Plan Peisey

Plan Peisey

Nestled among glorious alpine surrounds, at a snow-reliable height of 1600m, the quiet and picturesque little village of Plan Peisey lies at a great spot beside the Vanoise Express cable-car, which transport skiers across the valley between La Plagne and the other villages of Les Arcs.

Plan-Peisey has a good snow record as well as access to snow cannons to ensure your holiday is snow safe.

Access to the Les Arcs ski from Plan-Peisey is via a high-speed 6-seater ski lift. At the top of this chairlift there is a blue ski run to Arc 1800 from where the TransArc cable car provides access to the Arc 2000 ski area. Skiing home to Plan Peisey from other parts of Les Arcs: there is a choice of easy green, blue or red pistes. Alternatively there is a black run if those ski legs are not too tired at the end of the day.
